Awkwafina began as a American performer and rapper, releasing sly tracks that tackled questions of race and sexual identities with a funny twist. In the years before she stepped to Hollywood the singer could release a number of songs. Nora Lum began her musical journey as a trumpet player. Born in Forest Hills Queens, she was a child of Chinese immigrants and Korean immigrants. Jazz, classical and hip-hop education began when she was in her teens. At college, she was studying journalism and women's studies. Then, she even had a short time studying Mandarin in Beijing. When she graduated, she started to concentrate on music. Her 2012 track My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success on the Internet before settling on her debut album Yellow Ranger in 2014.
